Choose scissors
Fine points for close trimming
Fine or arrow-shaped tips help reach thread ends and small tie-in points. Look for controlled blade closure and comfortable finger loops. Sharp points need care near the hook and finished dressing; a finer tip does not make a pair suitable for every tough material.
Broader blades, hair and curved scissors
Broader blades can help cut larger bunches of hair or synthetic fibre, while curved blades offer a different approach angle around a body. Consider the length of the cutting edge and your grip as well as the overall tool size. Choose according to the patterns you tie most often.
Protect the cutting edge
Keep fine tying scissors for suitable soft materials. Use a separate cutter for wire unless the maker explicitly approves that use. Wipe blades clean and dry, protect the tips in storage, and keep adhesive away from the pivot. Do not assume a harder blade material removes the need for careful use.
